aMuse’um Receives Touching $ .23 Donation From 7-Year-Old
When Amelia Rose Hickman, a 7-year-old student at Columbia Academy, heard that aMuse’um Children’s Museum was suffering a financial loss due to the Pandemic, she knew she wanted to help.
“She had been playing with her friend for a while and came up beside me like she wanted to tell me a secret. She opens her hand and asks me if she can give this to the museum because she loves aMuse’um and doesn’t want anything to happen to it...She was clutching two dimes and three pennies,” aMuse’um Employee Sherrie Kennedy said.
In addition to the .23 donation, Amelia wrote a letter outlining the reasons she loves visiting the museum:
“... Please donate it makes a big difference! The toys are cool! There’s a slide, dress up, music! If I could I would give as many stars as I can! Anyone can come!” she wrote.
Despite the financial shortfall aMuse’um has continued to operate and provide its services and programs to the public. As of October 23rd, the museum had reached roughly $28,000 (80%) of their $40,000 goal.
“It’s so encouraging to see the community step up like this, especially at a time when it seems everyone has been affected by the Pandemic in some way. Families in Maury County continue to make their support known expressing the vital impact we have in the community,” said Executive Director Maeghan Wall.
For children like Amelia, the museum not only provides a safe place to play, but sparks creativity, imagination and unbridled joy each time they visit. Caregivers benefit as well, as the museum provides a place where adults can take a break from their norm while making memories and building lifelong relationships.
